About the Scholarship
Seventy (70) Forensic practitioners received scholarships to attend the 2008 International Association of Forensic Sciences (IAFS) triennial meeting held in New Orleans, LA (July 21–26, 2008). The scholarships were provided by the National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) through funding from a cooperative agreement (2007-DD-BX-K072) with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). The 2008 IAFS Meeting was only the fourth meeting to be held in the United States, representing an extraordinary opportunity for members of the forensics community in the United States.
Scholarship benefits included the IAFS basic registration fee (which included some meals), travel, lodging, and an incidental transportation flat payment to cover taxi, parking, shuttles, etc. Scholarship recipient candidates were selected from applications sent by professional practitioners in law enforcement, forensic services, or legal services employed by U.S. publicly funded agencies. The attendee group was determined based upon diversity in profession, unit of government (State, local, tribal), and geography.
